Seivane

Cambre hosted the first act of the celebration of the centenary of the birth of Xosé Seivane

Xosé Manuel Seivane Rivas (Fonmiñá, A Pastoriza, Lugo, 1921 – Cambre, A
Coruña, 2012) built his first bagpipe in 1939, in a small workshop in this corner in the Terra Chá region, thus creating the first label “Seivane”. His activity in the Ribeira de Piquín workshop, Lugo, made him a legend in life. This year it would be 100 years old.

There was a round table on his figure entitled “Seivane in the world of gaita” by the UDC professor and writer of his biography, Xosé Manuel Sánchez Rei. And there was also musical recitals, with Susana Seivane, Daniel Bellón, Pedro Lamas, Carlos Freire, Saínza Seivane, the children of the Seivane family, and the Sementeira de Cambre Traditional Group. The event was presented by Xurxo Souto. And recorded by the German public TV NDR, Program “Mare”.

The mayor of Cambre, Óscar García Patiño, points out the “pride for this city council of having an illustrious family like Seivane, who did and continues to do so much for the world of culture and music in Galicia”. The Councilor for Culture, Mónica Varela, highlights the important role played by Xosé Seivane “when it comes to enhancing the music of Galicia, a milestone for which we will always be indebted to him.”
