The National Crafts Prizes are organized annually by the Spanish Foundation for Innovation in Crafts (Fundesarte) under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, and were awarded this year for the eighth time. The Obradoiro de Gaitas Seivane was chosen as finalist in the National Crafts Prize for overall excellence.

The prize is given for general achievement, quality, adaptation, social and environmental responsability, transmission of positive values, creativity, innovation and commitment to craft development. The prizes will be awarded in spring at a ceremony that will take place in the function room of the Ministry of Industry in Madrid.

The Obradoiro de Gaitas Seivane, through its different activities – construction, presentation, dissemination, marketing, study and research – has always maintained the desire to dignify the gaita, the musical instrument that symbolizes Galicia, and to elevate it to the highest spheres of music and to the maximum level of recognition; and now it is indeed internationally recognized.

In 2006 the Obradoiro de Gaitas Seivane was awarded the Innova Prize for innovation in the crafts, for its web page and its innovations such as the Seipal synthetic drone-reed.
